place in Finistère in Brittany
By following the coastal path, we discovered, among others, the Crozon peninsula, a magnificent place in Finistère in Brittany with its turquoise waters, its adorable coves and its charming villages (Crozon, Morgat, Camaret-sur-Mer and the Vauban tower from the 17th century). From Cap de la Chèvre in the south to Pointe de Pen-Hir in the north, the peninsula offers breathtaking landscapes. In Morgat we noticed we missed one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, the Île Vierge beach. But then people told us that the beach is closed because of the coronavirus.
Due to the pandemic, we had to wear masks in the shops and supermarkets to buy fruit. The most beautiful supermarkets, or shall we say self-service restaurants, were of course the fig and apple trees. Unfortunately, we only found them close to the cities so we had to shop additionally with masks. However, there were hardly any shopping opportunities in the villages. So we had to fast a little once.
The coastal landscape is known for its beautiful hiking trails, there were many people on the way. That led to several nice conversations, but also impaired the experience of nature. We were three people, Aim'jie, a friend of hers and me.
Thursday (6 Aug 2020, 2km):
After getting off the bus from Paris in the town Brest, we look for a green place to sleep. The black arrow shows our choice.
Friday (14km):
After a sea trip on a ferry to Le Fret, we walk along the water. The next beach seems easily accessible by this way...
...but appearances are deceptive. In the end we have to pass this rock. Aim'jie and her friend swim, I bring the luggage.
Now we prefer to stay on the path. The purple heather and yellow gorse flowers shape the landscape.
View to Camaret-sur-Mer
"Le Petit Gouin", built in 1859 for coastal defense. We consider to sleep in it but we keep on walking...
...and sleep here, as it's raining a little bit.
Saturday (26km):
Another relic from wartime
"Les Tas de Pois", a well-known rock formation
Les Tas de Pois - from the other side. We are taking a break.
Eating mussels fresh from the rocks
The beaches are perfect for walking barefoot, the sand is pretty firm.
We try to climb over the rocks to the next beach, without success. We go back...
...and take the path.
The 3 rocks of "Les Tas de Pois" are still visible. I suspect the visibility is what makes these 3 rocks so famous.
Conversation with a cyclist
Often we see small beaches.
Our sleeping place.
Sunday (19km):
Giraffe, represented by a dead tree with ivy
Sometimes we find blackberries, but I cannot eat them very much, my belly tells me to stop after maybe 20 berries.
Before Morgat there is a forest at the coast.
Sometimes there are bushes, e.g. blackthorn (sloe). Here they are so tall that the path becomes a tumnel.
After walking a beach instead of the trail, we have to pass this river. We walk 200m upwards and through.
At the sea the sunset is double colorful.
60% probability of rain - we sleep here.
Monday (26km):
Here we are, once again.
She seems to be really happy :-)
We have to take the ebb and flow into account
Sleeping place under trees
Tuesday (20km):
Do you find me? I am looking for figs.
Big beaches before Douarnenez
Our trail goes almost always until Douarnenez along the coast.
About fishing in the past centuries<
Grapes, the only ones of this Walkabout
Exceptionally we climb over a fence.
Sleeping place in Locronan, a beautiful well-known town
Wednesday (18km):
Funny warning in Locronan: the door is small!
Siesta _ _ _
Sleeping 😌😌😌
Thursday (5km):
Close to Quimper, we find many blackberries. I prefer them to those from the coast.
Last sleeping place in Quimper - not very romantic but dry. In the night we get a real rain.
