Water emergency

This season is also unusually dry. It rained a lot in December 2022, but almost not at all in the other months from summer 2022 to April 2023. Water for irrigation was already running out. We were afraid that nothing would come until autumn, but fortunately it has rained in the past few days. Now there is water from the spring in abundance again. Despite the rain, I advise all neighbors to water profusely and throughout the garden so that the soil gets deeply soaked everywhere before water runs out again.

Already in the years before, we had a lack of water in the summer. But this summer is the worse one, because the last rainy season was unusually dry. The first real rain came at Christmas, before not more than a few mm since the spring last year. We get the water from a big source, 2km from here. The source is depending appearently on the rain. We hope for a lot of rain next season... From the source the water goes over small concrete channels to hundreds of farmers. And in times of water emergency, you can imagine, conflicts are coming up... But our neighborhood is connected in a WhatsApp group, that helps. On my land there are two tanks, we call them 4a and 4b. This tanks support water for 6 fincas, for us and for some neighbours.
