Pitanga fruits
Update: 1 June 2023
Almost no one here knows Pitanga fruits (Suriname cherries, Eugenia uniflora). But they are tasty, they grow easily in our area and tolerate dry periods. It's a large shrub or small tree, growing slowly up to 8m high, native to tropical Southeast America. The fruits are juicy, aromatic and a bit sweet...This year the fruits ripen two and a half months earlier than last year. Although the bush looks happy, it has only 15 fruits. Today Murielle and I ate 6 of them, we like the taste.
Yesterday I ate the first Pitanga fruit from our garden. The bush was a bit damaged by the fire in October 2019, but now it looks fine again. It seems to grow easily. The taste is not special like avocados or bananas, but I like it: juicy and a bit sweet.
