I become a nomad

I want to make more of my life. I believe I have the opportunity to have a greater influence on humanity. I want to seize this opportunity. I think it will be good for me too. So my life will change, as will the events...

The test phase

From July to November 2026, I will conduct an experiment: a hike from northern Germany to southern Spain. If I enjoy the hiking lifestyle, I will decide to hike permanently and will hike back from southern Spain to northern Germany starting around February 2027. I would like to transfer my finca and almost all of my belongings to a good friend and visit him occasionally in the winter. So I will voluntarily become homeless.

Side activities

However, just hiking would be too boring for me. I would like to combine my hiking life with a few side activities:

  • I would like to promote a simple way of life on the internet (e.g., Instagram) and report on my experiences.
  • At church services and other events, I offer to give a speech about my life and promote a simple lifestyle (draft in German), as well as offer my music (piano and singing).
  • I invest in the stock market to increase my money so that I can later donate it to charitable organizations (e.g., Welthungerhilfe).
  • I invite you to join me on my journey for as long as you like and as long as we get along well, and to experience how well I can live with very few possessions. If you would like to join me for a longer period of time, you can already write to me (contact formular).

My motivation

Why do I do these changes? I have started many activities, so I have neglected my large garden. I cannot do everything I have started at the same time. Therefore, I would like to give up my garden. Furthermore, I consider persuit for wealth to be the cause of many of humanity's problems and see an opportunity to start a movement against this greed, a movement for a simple way of life. And I have a feeling that regular hiking will do me good.

Healing effects

World peace: I see persuit for power and wealth as the main cause of probably all conflicts and wars. Often, it is only the persuit of a few rulers that is decisive. But this persuit is contagious. It spreads from the population to those in power. A movement for a simple way of life will therefore promote world peace.

Climate protection: It is widely accepted by scientists that climate-damaging gases will cause even more frequent and larger disasters than we are already seeing today. A reduction in these gases is urgently needed. Unfortunately, this often fails due to economic interests. Prosperity is more important to many voters than climate protection. A movement for a simple lifestyle can therefore promote climate protection.

Quality of life: Studies show that people in richer countries are happier than those in poorer countries. In richer countries, the persuit for wealth is partially satisfied. It can be further reduced by a movement for a simple lifestyle. In addition, voluntarily giving up a car, for example, promotes health through more exercise and fewer exhaust fumes.

How to live simple?

By a simple lifestyle, I mean, above all, shopping little. This doesn't mean deprivation and suffering. I want to spread the word that we can live more comfortably with less shopping:

Food is healthier and often tastier when we get it from nature or our garden.

Toilet paper is a significant environmental burden due to its massive consumption. I replace it with water. It's also more hygienic than toilet paper. So, buy a bidet and have it installed in the bathroom? I hope you find a simpler solution. Mine is a hose in the garden.

Clothes: I find them mostly in the trash or get them as gifts from friends. Okay, that's out of the question? Then buying secondhand, for example, at a flea market, is an environmentally friendly and inexpensive solution.

Paper towels or cleaning supplies: water is enough for cleaning. And the smaller the apartment, the less cleaning you have to do. Cleanliness isn't exactly my strong suit...

Tools, bike, etc.: I buy them mostly secondhand.

Car: You'd probably be surprised if you knew what you can transport with a bicycle!

Thoughts: With fewer possessions, perhaps my thoughts become simpler, there are fewer problems to solve. And I find it much more pleasant to live at a standard of living that isn't based on the exploitation of others, a standard of living that, theoretically, everyone in the world could live with satisfaction.
